Communication about the Reopening of LCA Church for Physical Services

Posted Sunday, July 12, 2020

Dear LCA Family and Friends,

Many of you will be aware that the Quebec Government has permitted the reopening of places of worship with numerous restrictions. Therefore, we, as Staff and Leadership, wanted to update you regarding our current plan.

We would all love to be together in person again soon! However, while the Quebec Government has technically allowed reopening, the restrictions on reopening have removed most of the positive aspects of meeting together as compared to worshipping online. We want our worship services to be uplifting and encouraging, not disappointing or frustrating.

Quebec is currently the only province in Canada that has not published a guide for the reopening of places of worship. We are, however, aware of the following restrictions:

  • The maximum number of people allowed is NOT 50, rather the number that can be seated while remaining properly distanced. This number may be up to a maximum of 50 depending on the size of the premises.
  • Entrance and exit should be with separate doors allowing for one-way traffic.
  • Full cleaning of the premises is required after each use.
  • No singing is permitted.
  • Face masks should be worn by all attending.
  • There is no passing of offering plates, communion, connect cards, etc. and no serving of coffee, food or refreshments within the premises.
  • There are no children’s services.

As you can see, this severely restricts our capacity to host ‘normal’ services.

The restrictions mentioned above, alongside the ongoing health concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19, and taking into consideration the feedback we’ve received from church members, have resulted in our decision as a leadership to continue providing our services online at this time.

The church premises will therefore, remain closed for public services during the summer months.

We understand that this may be disappointing for some, however, we believe that it is the correct, godly, and wise decision. The safety of our church family and our community is paramount. We hope that the restrictions will ease and allow for the safe reopening of our church premises in the near future. We hope that in September, we will be able to begin onsite meetings.

We are currently considering some alternative options to gather safely during August. You will receive a survey in the coming days to help us gauge your thoughts and desires on this.

We encourage you to share this message with others in our community and to continue to connect and actively participate in our online services and ministries every Sunday.

On a more positive note, we have been delighted to see how God has used our online services to reach far more people than we can normally physically accommodate on Sunday mornings! We trust that God will continue to use LCA’s online presence and physical services (soon) to reach more people with the good news of Jesus Christ!

Please continue to stand with us in prayer for a rapid and sustained progress in combating this devastating virus.

Thank you all for your support, encouragement, patience and dedication during this unique situation.

On behalf of the Staff and Leadership of Laval Christian Assembly
